The brown-headed apalis is a mid- to high altitude forest species. Note the dark brown crown, the grey outer tail feathers and the white tail tip. The upper, 2nd and 4th row photos were taken in Kisolanza; the 3rd row photo in the Udzungwa Mountains, all courtesy of Per Holmen. The 5th row bird was in the Nou Forest. The other photos were also taken in the Udzungwa Mountains by Dr. Louis A. Hansen who notes: "Age: adult; subspecies: probably the nominate race (A. a. alticola)".
