African Pygmy Kingfisher
Ispidina picta
Home Alphabetical Maps Taxonomic Links/Resources

The African pygmy is smaller that the otherwise similar malachite kingfisher, but note that the blue crown does not extend to the eye, separating it from all other blue-crowned kingfishers. The immature (left middle) and the left lower adult were seen at Maji Moto, courtesy of Colin Beale; the right lower, in Maasai Mara (9-10), courtesy of Steve Brynes. The other photos were taken at Mahale (8-06). Click the left lower photo to see eight enlargements.
