The diagnostic characteristics of the brown parrot are the yellow band across the head and the yellow shoulder. A yellow underwing patch shows in flight. These photos were taken in Tarangire, Serengeti, Yaida Valley and Katavi. Click the bottom photo to see enlargements including two nests.

In slideshow photos #1-8 the pair appeared to excavating the nest cavity. They traded placed every 12-15 minutes. When time was up, the one inside would fly out and give a single note call; the other would then fly to the nest, go inside and the cycle would repeat.
