The dappled mountain robin is an Eastern Arc Mountains endemic. The upper bird was photographed in the Udzungwa Mountains (6-07) by Dr. Louis A. Hansen who noted: "adult; sexes: alike; subspecies: sanjei". The lower bird was seen in the Udzungwa Scarp Forest (8-19), courtesy of Per Holmen.
