The grey-headed woodpecker is a northeast African endemic, differing from the widespread grey woodpecker (D. goertae) by having a large red belly patch and a bright yellow mantle which are visible in most of these images. The mating pair and the right upper male are courtesy of Valéry Schollaert. The other photos were taken in Migunga and Tarangire. Click the photo above to see seven enlargements.
