d'Arnaud's barbet is found in wooded and bushed grassland in northern Tanzania east of the Rift Valley, often feeding on the ground or near termite mounds. The similar Usambiro barbet is larger, has a darker grey bill and occurs west of the Rift Valley. The upper bird was seen in Same (12-14), courtesy of Hanna Nyman.
