Most of these images are probably male hoopoes; the otherwise similar female has a greyer face and breast (left lower image). Note the long decurved bill for foraging for underground insects. These images were taken in Yaida Valley (left upper, 10-10), Engikaret (right upper, 9-10, courtesy of Valéry Schollaert), Samburu (2nd row, 1-96), Ngare Naibor (left 3rd row, 1-12), Ndutu (right 3rd row, 5-10), Tarangire (5-08) and Serengeti (6-06).
