The rufous naped lark has rufous wings and crest and a short tail. The ssp. nigrescens in southwestern Tanzania is darker than the nominate race and the breast streaking extends onto the flanks (left upper photo, Kitulo NP, 9-09, courtesy of Paul Oliver).
