The lowland (miombo) ssp. anderssoni of southern yellow white-eye is separate from the largely montane forest ssp. stierlingi. There are also marked morphological differences: one pale yellowish-green above and bright yellow below with a narrow eye-ring (anderssoni), the other darker green above with a broader eye-ring (stierlingi).
