The left upper photo of a southern nominate male with a yellow shoulder patch (Ruaha, 2-13) is courtesy of Karine Van der Vurst. The left 2nd row male (Ndutu, 4-14) is courtesy of Per Holmen. The middle photos (Tarangire, 4-04) and the lower photos (Mwiba, 3-18) are ssp. eques, with a chestnut shoulder patch. Click the left lower photo to see 7 enlargements. White-winged Widowbirds retain the white in non-breeding plumage which makes them one of the easiest Euplectes to identify year round.
