The upper photo was taken at Ndutu (4-14), courtesy of Per Holmen; the flight and middle photos, at Lake Natron (3-15), courtesy of Paul Oliver. These photos include males, females and immatures. The male (4th row) has a dark chestnut breast band, a black bar above the white forehead and a thin black stripe behind the eye; the female (5th row) has a light chestnut band and no black marks; the immature has an incomplete grey breast band and grey eye stripe (see slideshow). The two lower birds were part of a small flock foraging in a stream issuing from Lake Eyasi (10-06). Click the photo above to see 19 more photos.
