The brown-headed apalis is a mid- to high altitude forest species. Note the dark brown crown, the grey outer tail feathers and the white tail tip. The upper 4 photos and the left 5th row photo were taken in Kisolanza and the Udzungwa Mountains and are courtesy of Per Holmen. The right 5th row bird was in the Nou Forest. The other photos were taken in the Udzungwa Mountains by Dr. Louis A. Hansen who notes: "Age: adult; subspecies: probably the nominate race (A. a. alticola)".
