The common kestrel is a common palearctic migrant in Tanzania from October to May. Ssp. rufescens, however, is resident: see the Tanzania Bird Altas maps. The top hovering female (Serengeti, 11-11) is courtesy of Doug McLennan; the left 2nd row female is courtesy of Dr. Louis A. Hansen. The perched male (5th row left, Maasai Mara, 2-12) is courtesy of Karine Van der Vurst. The left 6th row female was at Ndutu (3-08); the right 5th row photo and both 6th row photos ssp. rufescens were at Kitangire (1-16). The right lower photo (Musoma, 1-12) and the 3rd and 4th four photos of a male in flight (Kakesio, 4-10) are ssp. rufescens. Click the photo above to see 10 enlargements. |
