The black-headed gull is an uncommon visitor to our area, see map. The upper photo was taken at Msasani Bay (12-13), courtesy of Riaan Marais. The left 2nd row photo is of an adult in moult with part of the hood remaining (2-09). The right 2nd and 3rd row photos are of October (winter) plumage. The left 4th row photo is a 1 Cy bird in August. The left 3rd row and right 4th row photos are 1Cy birds in October, all courtesy of Dr. Louis A. Hansen.
