The lesser blue-eared starling, formerly miombo, is similar to the greater blue-eared starling, but in good light the belly and flanks are magenta, not well seen in the photos above (upper, Mikumi; middle, Msumbugwe forest). The juvenile in the lower photo (Msumbugwe forest) shows the distinctive mottled, rust-coloured underparts. The left 2nd row adult (Mikumi) is courtesy of Per Holmen. |
