The top bird was seen at Shambarai swamp. The 2nd row female or juvenile was seen on the Maasai steppe, courtesy of Per Holmen. All of the other photos were taken in Ngorongoro Crater; the left 3rd row photo is courtesy of Fain Zimmerman. It is a palearctic migrant seen from October to April throughout much of sub-Saharan Africa. Note the considerable variation in markings, especially in the enlargements.
