The rock kestrel was previously regarded as subspecies of the common kestrel; recent studies show it to be genetically distinct. The left bird was seen at Samburu (Kenya, 2-12), courtesy of Karine Van der Vurst. The right photograph was taken at Ibaga-Makete (4-09). The nest was photographed at Oldonyo Sambu (7-24-23), courtesy of Frank Priscus Shirima. The bird is usually solitary or in pairs and near rock outcrops where it breeds/nests. |
